Petra's Stone Collection

Located in Stöðvarfjörður is Petra’s Stone Collection. Petra Sveinsdóttir began collecting stones as a young woman and continued to do so throughout her life. After her husband, Jón Ingimundarson, passed away far too young, Petra persisted in collecting stones and various other items. Today, the collection is renowned as the largest privately owned stone collection in the world. It is open from spring to autumn and is truly well worth a visit.

Snærós Art Gallery

Snærós Art Gallery is one of the oldest art galleries in Iceland outside the capital area. It was founded by the couple Sólrún Friðriksdóttir and Ríkharður Valtingojer, who ran it together for many years. Following Ríkharður’s passing, their daughter Rósa has taken a larger role in the business. Today, visitors can view and purchase artwork by all three family members and other artists, as well as jewelry, textiles, and various art pieces.

Kaffi Kvörn

Some say the best coffee in Iceland is found right here. We won't argue with that! At Kaffi Kvörn, located within the Creative Centre, you can sit down for a chat or even sign up for a coffee subscription delivered anywhere in the country.

Brauðdagar Doughhouse

If the bread is from Brauðdagar Doughhouse, you know it’s good. They offer home delivery twice a week throughout all of East Iceland.

The Creative Centre

The Creative Centre (Sköpunarmiðstöðin) is housed in what was once the village fish freezing plant. Visionaries saved the building from demolition, and it now serves as a thriving hub for the arts where creators come for both short and long-term residencies. It hosts workshops and exhibitions and is recognized as one of the official Cultural Centres of East Iceland.

The Salthouse market

The Salthouse Market (Salthússmarkaðurinn) takes its name from the "Salt House" where it originally began. The market has since moved into the Community Hall (Samkomuhúsið) and is open during the summer months. It features handicrafts from locals and former residents alike—an ideal stop for those looking for household items, traditional wool sweaters (lopapeysur), jams, jellies, and much more.

Studio Silo

Studio Silo is a recording studio located within the Creative Centre. It offers both analog and digital recording capabilities, and they even press vinyl records on-site. If you are planning to release music, you should definitely consider whether Studio Silo is the right choice for you. (Spoiler: It is!)

Stöðvarfjörður Swimmingpool

The Stöðvarfjörður Swimming Pool is a charming, family-friendly pool set in beautiful surroundings. It’s the perfect place to relax in the hot tub and wash off the "travel dust." The pool is open from May through September.
