Opened in June 2019 Studio Silo resides within the Fish Factory (Creative Centre) in the village of Stoðvarfjordur.
Studio Silo is a Professional, five-room, Recording Studio and is one of the few Studios in Iceland which has the ability to record to multitrack tape with a purely analog signal chain, and the only Studio in the land which specialises in fully analog process.
Whilst specialising in analog recording, Studio Silo also offers both digital and recording.
The entire facility is designed by Acoustics Engineer John H. Brandt from Texas, USA.
With over 40 years of experience, John has designed hundreds of successful Studios worldwide. His design has ensured a fluent working environment that does not strain the ears or the eyes.
The studio’s name derives from the fact that the Studio is situated on the upper floor of the Fish Factory, where the Fish Factory’s Ice Storage Silo was stationed. Thus, Studio Silo was born.
Because of its former function, the space is thoroughly insulated, resulting in excellent acoustic isolation as well. We believe that Stöðvarförður is an inspiring place to be and that is one thing that makes Studio Silo a very desirable and magical place to play and record music. The studio is bathed in natural light with air conditioning and calm decor. We have a striking view towards the North Atlantic and across to the mountains on the Southern side of the fjord.
Studio Silo is home to a vast array of vintage equipment and instruments, all of which we have carefully restored.
A lot of gear is built in-house and custom-designed specifically for Studio Silo.
Within the same building resides an international Art Residency hosting seven Visual Artists from all over the world.
This lends to a very creative atmosphere, and many collaborations have sprouted.
Artists also have access to use our concert hall for rehearsals before recording sessions and to host concerts as well.
We believe that to come here and record an album is a very rewarding experience, being surrounded by the mountains of the fjord, the beautiful peace, and the inspiring energy that this place gives.
